Venue:     Virtual meeting using Skype (add iypf.board on your account); RSVP your attendance to iypf@iypf.org to receive further details on how to participate, etc. – RSVP by Thursday 1st December 2011

The agenda for the meeting includes:
    Presentation of IYPF Annual Report for 2010/2011
    Receiving the Financial Report for the 2010/2011 Financial Year
    Election of Directors - see list of candidates here
    Discussion of future directions of the IYPF

All IYPF members or friends are more than welcome to attend the AGM, although only IYPF full members are eligible to vote. To become a Full Member visit http://www.iypf.org/membership.html.

Full members will have been sent an email notification of the AGM along with their ballot form for the Election of Directors, to be returned by close of business Thursday 1st December to iypf@iypf.org. If you didn't receive this, please contact iypf@iypf.org.

Please RSVP to iypf@iypf.org by Thursday 1st December if you are attending.

For those unable to attend, the results of the election and the presentations made will be available online from the IYPF website in the following weeks, along with minutes of the AGM.

]]><![CDATA[IYPF 2011 AGM Announcement and Call for Nominations of Directors]]>Tue, 25 Oct 2011 20:47:52 -0800http://www.iypf.org/1/post/2011/10/iypf-2011-agm-announcement-and-call-for-nominations-of-directors.htmlThe IYPF’s Board of Directors are excited to announce the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the organisation, and a call for IYPF members to nominate for election to the IYPF Board at the AGM.

The AGM will be held on Saturday 3rd December online via Skype (or equivalent technology). Further details on how to register to attend, the agenda, and all other information will be communicated to our stakeholders on Saturday 12th  November.

One of the key items of business at the AGM will be to elect a new Board of Directors. This is your opportunity to nominate for election to the Board to lead the organisation and bring your enthusiasm, ideas and energy to IYPF over the next 2 years.

The IYPF Board of Directors governs the organisation, determines strategy and direction, and oversees its operations. You can read more on the position here:

10 years ago, in October 2001, more than 120 young professionals convened on Australia's Gold Coast to discuss and plan for how they could help tackle poverty, sustainability, and human rights challenges facing their communities and the world.

Out of that meeting, the IYPF was born.

As indicated in the presentation above, IYPF has started to rebuild in 2011, and we need your involvement to grow the organisation as we together seek to engage more young professionals in creating a better world and assist them with the information, connections and opportunities they need to be effective change makers.

Connect, Share & Converse
As part of this rebuilding process, we have reviewed all our communications channels to stakeholders, and created new platforms for young professionals to interact with us and each other.

Note that all old communication channels on yahoogroups and old Facebook groups will gradually be phased out in the coming months.

Serve
You can serve the IYPF community by taking up a volunteer role.

We are currently seeking Regional Facilitators and people to join the organising committee for the next International Young Professionals Summit. See more here.

We will also be announcing the next Annual General Meeting in the near future and calling for nominations to serve on the IYPF Board of Directors for 2012. Stay tuned.

What’s new with IYPF this month? A new website & facebook page! IYPF has been busy developing a new, user-friendly website. Check it out:www.iypf.org. On our website you will find our recent news, ways to get involved the new vision of IYPF in 2011. We have also shifted from a Facebook Group to aFacebook Page, so make sure you ‘like’ us on facebook when you get a chance. 

Membership is easier than ever with our new website. Click here for a simple two step process to become a member. Becoming a member of IYPF is one way to demonstrate your commitment to engaging in change as a professional, but also an opportunity to take the next step and become involved in making a difference. As a member you’ll also join a powerful network of young professionals from over 130 countries across the globe!

We need your help! New ways to get involved. Right now, we are looking for volunteers for a number of projects:
  1. We are looking for volunteers to help us plan and prepare for IYPFs 10th birthday in October. Please email sarahvannsander@iypf.org with expressions of interest.
  2. IYPF is developing a strategy working group and requires individuals who have valuable insights to share surrounding development projects and non-profits organization. Please email nickbyrne@iypf.org with expressions of interest.
  3. We also need volunteers to help us prepare for the International Young Professionals Summit in 2012. We are looking to build an IYPS 2012 organising sub-committee which will be responsible for everything from researching and deciding where the summit should be held to the hands on organising closer to the date. Please email sarahvannsander@iypf.orgwith expressions of interest.

In the news: IYPF Joins Young Leaders on a New Declaration of Poverty. On April 1st IYPF President Cristian Birzer joined with nineteen young leaders in an meeting with the Governor General, the Honourable Quentin Bryce, AC, to present the By 2015 Declaration, which furthers Australian efforts to reduce global poverty. The Declaration’s title, By 2015, references the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of halving global poverty by 2015, and sets out actions for each of the organizations to improve their efforts in the next four years. READ MORE.

The Declaration’s title, By 2015, references the United Nations Millennium Development Goal of halving global poverty by 2015, and sets out actions for each of the organizations to improve their efforts in the next four years. Specifically in the next four years they will work to provide an additional 30,000 children with access to quality education throughout Africa, India and the Asia Pacific. In addition they will work to equip and enable 500 local leaders in these regions to scale up proven local strategies already making an impact. 

The By 2015 Declaration has been met with significant community support. Australian of the Year Simon McKeon has praised the group, and echoed their challenge.  “What this group will achieve in the next four years is inspiring, but it is just the beginning. We need leaders across Australia to stand up and match their commitment”, he said.  Event Organiser Aaron Tait, from Spark* said “The organisations represented here today will do all they can to contribute to the movement end extreme poverty in our lifetime. However, we desperately need our leaders in Government, Business and the Community to make a similar effort”.

According to a recent study conducted by the London based Charities Aid Foundation, Australian companies and individuals are the world’s most generous, however our Government is rated 17th in the world, well behind the foreign aid commitments of many other developed nations. Recent Quantum Research found that 80% of surveyed Australians supported making a 0.7% of GNP commitment to foreign aid.

Welcome to 2011! This monumental year marks the UN International Year for People of African Descent, the UN International Year of Chemistry, the UN International Year of Forests, and the UN International Year of Youth. What an incredible year we have ahead of us, and with merely four years until 2015; the target date of reaching the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG), now is the time to gather every international young professional on the planet working for change to inspire, change, create and grow.

Are you excited? IYPF is. IYPF is. 2010 ended on a high with the UN MDG Summit, concluding with the adoption of a global action plan to reach new major commitments to women's and children's health and other initiatives against poverty, hunger and disease. The IYPF ended the year by electing a new Board of Directors to continue the work of renewing and rebuilding the organisation so that it can support, mobilise and connect young professionals in their pursuits of global change and betterment. Our AGM in December was also catalyst for moving forward and you can access the minutes or AGM presentation online. IYPF is in the process of transforming and reforming to better:
  • Highlight the powerful position and influence Young Professionals have both inside corporations and through government
  • Encourage Young Professionals to actively help make a difference
  • Improve the capacity of Young Professionals making a difference through information, knowledge, & connectivity

Are you a Young Professional trying to make a difference? Young Professionals, aged 21 to 40 in their early to middle careers, are ideally placed to influence and capable of driving current and future change in the world. IYPF exists to help Young Professionals realise this potential, to take advantage of this position, and to eventually help them take their place as the world leaders of tomorrow. Becoming a member of IYPF is one way to demonstrate your commitment to engaging in change as a professional, but also an opportunity to take the next step and become involved in making a difference.
