IYPF Members Sharing Ideas: Cameron Neil at TEDxDubbo
Cameron Neil, former IYPF Director and CEO, presented at TEDxDubbo in August 2011. Cameron, with his background in Fairtrade and sustainable agriculture, took the opportunity to discuss how small-scale farmers can be the heroes in our current and looming food crisis – if we choose to support farmer cooperatives, collectives and other small farmer businesses that enable them to move up the global value chain and do more than ‘grow food’ for global commodity markets. Given 2012 is the Australian Year of the Farmer and the International Year of Cooperatives, Cameron pondered what lessons there might be for Australian farming and food production in the face of current and future challenges.
You can watch Cameron’s talk here.

IYPF Members Changing the World: Andrew Benson Greene's Success in Geneva.
IYPF recently helped member Andrew Benson Greene, Founder and CEO B-Gifted foundation of Sierra Leone, on a trip to Geneva to pitch his groundbreaking idea to International Telecommunication Union. The ITU selected his idea. IYPF would like to congratulate Andrew on his success.
"My idea was selected by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecom 2011 because of its uniqueness and the fact that moved the judges in the first place. It was also selected because it will encourage the victims of amputation in Sierra Leone to use technology such as internet, video and digital cameras to share their war time stories to the world that helps them recover from traumatic experiences of the war and emotions. These technologies will also further enhance their ability to participate in the global community in the creation of a peaceful and inclusive community. The premise of my idea is that amputees will no longer be excluded from the digital revolution. It is experimental to see amputees use their remaining limbs to access technologies and share stories. Amputation under an act of war violence and hate has a particular impact on the personal identity of the victims often causing long-term physiological and psychological disturbance".
Learn more about Andrew Benson Greene, an inspiring IYPF member:
Aside from being a member of the International Young Professionals Foundation, Andrew is the Founder and CEO of B-Gifted foundation of Sierra Leone. He has 10+ years experience in the non-profit sector, youth and technology and the issues of child soldiers and human rights of children in areas of conflict. He has traveled world-wide, from Beijing to Moscow, to Washington, to share his vision of using information technology amongst children and war scarred youth. A referee once noted that: 'Mr. Greene's efforts have had a profound effect on the minds of young people around the world, from Sierra Leone to Cambodia to Afghanistan. Andrew's efforts attracted the United Nations to his project as a model to be used in countries affected by war". He has also contributed enormously as a Guest Speaker to the CIDA in 2004 during the International Corporation Days Millennium Development Goals: Moving from Consensus to Momentum. His efforts have culminated in an array of prestigious international awards, citations, and bursaries for my peace building efforts and Internet-based innovations. For several years in Sierra Leone, Andrew has overseen and coordinated the successfully implementation of War Child Canada DFAIT funded project No War Zone. He was a distinguished Sauvé scholar at McGill University, Montreal Canada. He was contracted twice by the World Bank in DC to produce video documentaries for the World Development Report 2007 focusing on youth unemployment in Sierra Leone and the ‘Next Generation. In 2005, Andrew made a significant contribution to the book, 'Raise Your Voice, Lend A Hand, Change The World' written by Susan Hughes and produced by Scholastic Canada. He holds a BA in English Civil Law and International Relations and is a double Masters Candidate for an MA Program in Coexistence and Conflict in Boston, US. Another referee noted: "It’s not just that Andrew Greene is mold breaking. What’s most important is that he is a powerful model for other young African leaders". In 2004, he was on the shortlist of Stanford University US Digital Visions Fellows.
